Compare security testing costs with a practical ROI model
A meaningful security testing comparison includes more than a license or engagement quote. Scope, assurance, frequency, internal effort, remediation support, and retesting all affect the value delivered.

Separate product and service costs
A software subscription, a managed testing platform, and an expert-led penetration test provide different things. List the output each option promises: checks run, targets covered, human testing hours, report format, remediation support, and retest terms.
Compare current quotes and plan details directly. Pricing changes, and page copy or third-party summaries may be outdated. RedCell’s current plans are listed on its pricing page; request a vendor quote for products or services that do not publish a price.
Include the full cost of operating a tool
Add onboarding, integration, configuration, training, maintenance, cloud or model usage, and the time needed to triage results. Include operational overhead from false positives or noisy alerts. A low purchase price can still produce high cost if the tool creates work without improving decisions.
For a service, count scoping, environment preparation, coordination, report review, remediation, and retest effort. Note any business interruption or downtime constraints associated with the testing method.
Measure outcomes that matter
Track critical asset coverage, validated findings, time to owner, time to remediation, recurrence, and fixes confirmed by retest. For developer workflows, measure how early issues are found and whether teams can resolve them before release.
Do not calculate savings by multiplying a vendor list price by an assumed number of tests unless the compared scope and deliverables match. A credible ROI model labels assumptions, uses your actual staff rates and incident costs, and compares a baseline over the same period.
A simple comparison worksheet
For each option, record annual direct cost, internal hours, assets and test types included, independent assurance provided, evidence format, support, integrations, and retesting. Add a confidence rating to each estimate and identify requirements that are non-negotiable.
If the product is a new AI agent, pilot it on a small authorized scope before estimating organization-wide savings. Compare results with a known baseline and have an experienced practitioner validate both coverage and findings.
